Scientists at TU Delft in The Netherlands have created the world's smallest autonomous racing drone. The drone weighs 72g and is 10cm in diameter. It relies heavily on algorithms to predict a safe path through the course instead of multiple sensors and cameras. The drone can navigate the course at an average of two metres per second, which is on par with larger racing drones.

Scientists at he SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University have created the loudest possible underwater sound at 270dB, by zapping micro-jets of water with n X-ray laser.
Google teamed up with researchers from New York University and the University of California, San Diego to conduct a year long study into the effectiveness of account recovery techniques against attacks. They found that adding a recovery phone number to your Google account blocks 100% of automated bots, 99% of bulk phishing attacks and 66% of targeted attacks.
