Human Genes Vs Microsoft Excel

The Human Genome Nomenclature Committee has changed the names of humane genes and proteins because the symbols were being automatically converted to dates in Microsoft Excel. Symbols such as SEPT1 and MARCH1 have been changed to SEPTIN1 and MARCHF1. The tyranny of Excel's rule continues unabated :-p

Everything Is Going To Be OK

Artist Allan McCollum produced an online exhibition that showcases the trope of reassurance in TV & Film with variation of the phrase "Everything is going to be OK". The series is called "An Ongoing Collection ofScreengrabs With Reassuring Subtitles" however a lot of the scenes depicted don't suggest reassurance, despite the dialogue. Perhaps that's the point.

Transformers War for Cybertron

Chapter 1: Siege of Transformers War for Cybertron was released on Netflix this week. I was unconvinced after the first episode, however after watching a few more, I really got into the slow pace and dark atmosphere of this new anime show. This is not your childhood's Transformers, nor is it anything like the Michael Bay explosion-fest, and is more akin to the IDW comic series, telling the story of the civil war on Cybertron following Megatron's uprising.
