This past Wednesday was World Mental Health Day. For a very long time, I subscribed to the view that mental health was great for other people, but not for me, that I was "strong enough" to handle whatever came my way, myself. It's a hard habit to break, but I now know that recognising your own mental health as something you can take care of, by yourself and with the help of others, is a perfectly normal part of adult life. Exercise always helps, every time, no matter how much you don't want to do it! I find these 3 principles of Stoicism help me take care of my mental health, perhaps they will help you too:
1) Control your perceptions
2) Direct your actions properly
3) Willingly accept what's outside your control
Sometimes though, you need the help of others. If you are struggling and the very last thing you want to even contemplate doing is talking about it, please ease your suffering and speak to someone, it really does help. ❤️
