In This Edition:
The Comet, What If We Stop Pretending, ML for Frontenders, Principles & Techniques of Data Science & an AI Voice Heist!

This week on a trip to Ireland I took a detour to Clogherhead Harbour in Louth. Parking in the carpark, you can walk behind the fish restaurant onto the grass and rocks of the coastline, it's amazing! I saw three seals swimming close to the shore!

The Comet

Motion Designer Christian Stangl and Composer Wolfgang Stangl used the 400,000 images released by the ESA of the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko taken by the Rosetta spacecraft to make a short film. The footage uses digitally enhanced real footage from the probe.

AI Voice Mimic Heist

AI generated voice mimicking software was used to persuade a director of a German energy subsidiary in the UK that their boss was on the phone and allowed theives to order the director to transfer funds to their bank account! This is believed to the first voice-AI assisted theft, so convincing that the director in question who made the transfer said that the software even imitated the tonality of the boss' voice.
