London Police Facial Recognition Trial

BBC Click published a video about a facial recognition trial conducted in East London by the Metropolitan Police. One day of the trial resulted in 3 arrests of suspects identified by the system. Alarmingly, the video also shows a passerby who covered his face in protest of being scanned being charged with disordly behaviour and issued with a £90 fine!

NVIDIA have released a have showcased a demo of its GauGAN image generation tool. The software allows the user to draw rudimentary scenes using a interface similiar to MS Paint, which are then converted into photo-realistic scenes using generative adversarial networks. Ireland V Wales in Swansea in 1949

RTÉ archives highlighted some footage this week from 1949 showing the Irish rugby team beat Wales and win the Triple Crown in St. Helen's in Swansea in 1949. The footage, shot by Norman Hodgson, starts with the Aer Lingus flight from Collinstown Airport in Dublin to LLandow airport and captures supporters arriving into Swansea by train and the crowds around St. Helens before the match.

The million dollar vegan campaign has issued a challenge to Pope Francis that if he goes vegan for lent, they will donate one million dollars to charity. The campaign wants to raise awareness for how trying vegan for lent can start the world down the road of halting climate change.
