A doctor working in Antarctica is required to get their appendix removed before going, because they are the only ones that can remove yours if it's needed while you are there. The rule came about when some doctors had to be evacuated, and another had to operate on himself. My advice would be to get your appendix out if you are going to Antarctica, just to be on the safe side!
